The Department of Communication and Media Studies at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for Fall 2026 to teach MDIA 304 - Global Media. The course is an exploration of “globalization” as an historical - as well as a contested - process, and of cultural, social, technological economic, and political processes at work in “media globalization.” Case studies link discussions of specific forms (i.e., music, radio, video, journalism, internet, mobile phones, broadcast satellites, and points of origin) to old and new audiences. These case studies are contextualized in a consideration of specific communication processes associated with trade, war, community development, policy making and reform, and privatization/deregulation.

Operating Engineer Chico
The Operating Engineer is primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of stationary equipment, boilers (gas and/or oil), chiller systems and other mechanical equipment used to provide campus utilities. Working independently, under general supervision, the Operating Engineer performs day-to-day operations for the Boiler Chiller Plant, and assists with the operation of building equipment and automated energy management systems to control HVAC. Incumbent will monitor and adjust mechanical and computerized controls to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely, and maintain daily logs of operation including maintenance work, test results, instrument readings, details of equipment malfunctions and energy consumption for conservation analysis. Responsibilities include identifying malfunctions, testing water quality, and taking necessary corrective action. Incumbent will also perform miscellaneous field duties, including maintenance and repair of underground and auxiliary equipment. This position works under direct supervision of the Supervising Building Services Engineer and general supervision of the Manager of Engineering Trades/Chief Engineer. Operating Engineers work shifts, day, swing, and/or graveyard, including weekends, providing continuous twenty-four-hour coverage, seven days per week. This position is Night Shift, Saturday through Wednesday, 10 pm to 6 am.

The temporary Painter performs journey-level painting and finishing work independently or as part of a team. Responsibilities include applying finishes, hanging wall coverings, mixing paints, surface prep (e.g., blasting), setting up scaffolding/rigging, and painting signage and markings. The role also covers material selection, inspections for quality and compliance, project estimating, shop support, equipment maintenance, safety adherence, recordkeeping, reporting, and collaboration with other trades.

The Police Officer Cadet is a non-sworn trainee position that prepares incumbents for appointment as a sworn Police Officer. Cadets attend a P.O.S.T.-certified academy and complete required training to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for law enforcement service. This course examines the physical basis of the climate system, including solar, atmospheric, biologic, and geologic evidence supporting our understanding of Earth’s past, present, and future climate cycles. It compares recent climate data with that of past climates to demonstrate how Earth’s current climates are changing, leading to the designation of a new era, “The Anthropocene.” The course also concludes with an examination of climate modeling and potential impacts on components of Earth and human systems, such as biological diversity, water issues, and international treaties.
