The course is an exploration of “globalization” as an historical - as well as a contested - process, and of cultural, social, technological economic, and political processes at work in “media globalization.” Case studies link discussions of specific forms (i.e., music, radio, video, journalism, internet, mobile phones, broadcast satellites, and points of origin) to old and new audiences. These case studies are contextualized in a consideration of specific communication processes associated with trade, war, community development, policy making and reform, and privatization/deregulation.
Operating Engineer	Chico
The Operating Engineer is primarily responsible for the operation and maintenance of stationary equipment, boilers (gas and/or oil), chiller systems and other mechanical equipment used to provide campus utilities. Working independently, under general supervision, the Operating Engineer performs day-to-day operations for the Boiler Chiller Plant, and assists with the operation of building equipment and automated energy management systems to control HVAC. Incumbent will monitor and adjust mechanical and computerized controls to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely, and maintain daily logs of operation including maintenance work, test results, instrument readings, details of equipment malfunctions and energy consumption for conservation analysis. Responsibilities include identifying malfunctions, testing water quality, and taking necessary corrective action. Incumbent will also perform miscellaneous field duties, including maintenance and repair of underground and auxiliary equipment. This position works under direct supervision of the Supervising Building Services Engineer and general supervision of the Manager of Engineering Trades/Chief Engineer. Operating Engineers work shifts, day, swing, and/or graveyard, including weekends, providing continuous twenty-four-hour coverage, seven days per week. The Police Officer Cadet is a non-sworn trainee position that prepares incumbents for appointment as a sworn Police Officer. Cadets attend a P.O.S.T.-certified academy and complete required training to develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed for law enforcement service. Upon successful completion and at management’s discretion, Cadets may be appointed to Police Officer on a probationary basis. Cadets receive training in criminal and civil law enforcement, report writing, physical fitness, firearms use and maintenance, arrest and control techniques, and applicable laws and procedures. They are expected to communicate effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community members from diverse backgrounds while fostering trust, credibility, and collaboration within the campus community. Appointments are temporary and typically do not exceed seven months. OR Under general supervision, Police Officers protect the University community by enforcing laws and campus regulations, responding to incidents, conducting investigations, testifying in court, and assisting the public. Officers apply progressive policing principles and maintain knowledge of search and seizure, probable cause, and criminal procedure. This position requires effective communication and collaboration with students, staff, faculty, and community members from diverse backgrounds while maintaining trust and positive community relationships.
