Job Summary:
Being a member of California State University, San Bernardino’s (CSUSB) Student Orientation Coordinator position is an honor and a rewarding opportunity for your personal and professional growth. Orientation and First Year Experience selects mature and dedicated student leaders to assist with the supervision of the Orientation Leader team and assist in the planning and implementation of our Transfer, First Year and Parent and Family Orientation programs.
Student Orientation Coordinators (SOCS) serve as executive leaders, peer supervisors and educators, CSUSB resource contact specialist, and role models to the entire Orientation Leader team. They are also instrumental in the successful transition of our newly admitted first-year, transfer students, and their families into the CSUSB community.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Help plan and facilitate Orientation Leader spring and summer training sessions, and team retreat weekend, by developing content, presentations, and working with campus departments as needed.
Design and implement team social activities for Orientation Leader team bonding and connection through spring semester and summer months.
Assist in facilitation of summer orientation programs, including First Year, Transfer, and Parent and Family Orientation programming.
Assist with office projects, administrative duties, Orientation Leader committee projects, and office support.
The following is a summary of expected duties. The list is not comprehensive and additional duties may be assigned as needed.
• Be an undergraduate, degree-seeking student at CSUSB; must maintain satisfactory academic progress towards degree completion.
• Uphold all aspects of CSUSB’s Student Conduct Code and be free of disciplinary sanctions.
• Exhibit commitment to the vision and mission of Orientation and First Year Experience.
• Participate in ALL Orientation activities.
• Exhibit leadership potential, good interpersonal communication, and group presentation skills
• Be able to work effectively with a diverse group of orientation team members, staff, faculty, and student participants and also promote the benefits of diversity.
Orientation Dates 2025
Student Orientation Coordinators are required to participate in all orientation sessions for first-year and transfer students, as well as Parent and Family Orientation sessions.

Conditions of Employment
Length of Position
The Student Orientation Coordinator position requires a student to commit to a 15-month agreement. The position begins fall semester 2024 and concludes at the end of fall semester 2025, with the majority of the workload occurring over spring semester and through the summer months.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
- International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
- Eligible to work in the United States
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card
Preferred Qualifications
• At least one (1) year of previous orientation experience at CSUSB.
• Maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.7 throughout term of position.
• Demonstrate a desire to learn about CSUSB, its regulations, its people, and its programs and to share the information with others.
• Possess the following role model qualities: maturity, responsibility, initiative, motivation, flexibility, enthusiasm, integrity, and a good work ethic.
Compensation and Benefits:
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.00 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position Information:
Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal
Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).
This is an 'On-Campus Only' position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.
As of January 1, 2022, the CSU Out-of-State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU-related work outside the state of California.

Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
