JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Nursing at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) invites applications for Teaching Associate (Clinical) positions. Teaching Associates are graduate nursing students at CSUSB who work part-time to gain practical teaching experience while completing their graduate education. Under the supervision of a faculty member (course lead), Teaching Associates may provide clinical, laboratory, simulation, and/or classroom instruction; evaluate student performance; administer examinations; and assign grades, as appropriate to the assignment.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

Under the supervision of a Nursing faculty member (Course lead), the Teaching Associate (Clinical) provides clinical, laboratory, simulation, and/or classroom instruction for undergraduate nursing students; supervises and evaluates student performance; grading, examinations, and other instructional activities as assigned; collaborates with faculty and clinical agency personnel to support student learning; maintains compliance with CSUSB, California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), and clinical agency policies and procedures; and performs other related instructional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be qualified to teach at the undergraduate level in the BSN generic program with clinical expertise in nursing. California RN license is required for this appointment and clinical skills must be current.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must be currently enrolled in or admitted to CSUSB Master of Science in Nursing (MSN); possess a current, active, and unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license; have California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) approval as assistant instructor to serve as a clinical instructor at the time of appointment; have at least one year of continuous direct patient care experience as a registered nurse within the last five years (or as required by the California BRN); and demonstrate effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and community partners.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with previous teaching, clinical instruction, precepting, or mentoring experience; strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills; experience working with diverse student populations; and proficiency with instructional technologies, such as Canvas.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. Note: CSUSB cannot deny an applicant a position solely or in part due to a criminal conviction history until it has performed an individualized assessment and linked the relevant conviction history with specific job duties in the position being sought.
