Job Summary:

The person in this position will work in Circulation, providing access to resources and information at the Service Desk, as well as maintaining building safety and security. The person in this position may support activities in one or more areas, such as Course Reserves, Scan & Deliver, Document Delivery, Inter-library Loan, Outreach activities, and student employee direction.


Responsibilities:

PDC Library Services: In close cooperation with the LSSIV, provide direct services to library users, carry out routine circulation functions, and assist in day-to-day care of the library area collaboratively with other library personnel. Carry out library opening and closing routines and work evening and/or weekend hours, as needed.

  • Applies library policies and procedures when performing daily tasks and follows established library service operations to ensure consistent and accurate service delivery.
  • Assist patrons with borrowing and returning items and resolving account issues. Recognize when to refer account issues to relevant personnel, accurately recording and sharing pertinent information.
  • Assists patrons in locating and using library resources and services in both physical and online environments, provides directional information, resolves routine patron questions and concerns, and refers patrons to library staff or a librarian (on-site or virtual) for in-depth research assistance.
  • Assists with identifying and reporting custodial issues to facilities and custodial services personnel.
  • Assists with inter-library loan and resource sharing borrowing and lending processes, as needed.

Other Public Services Operations:

  • Assists with marketing and outreach for programs, services, and collections, such as tabling at campus events.
  • Assists with data collection and compilation.

Other Classification-Related Duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • These qualifications for entry to Position Skill Level I normally would be obtained through the completion of a high school education or equivalent certification
  • Two years of related library and/or clerical experience or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required Qualifications:

  • General understanding of a library’s organization structure and key functional operations.
  • Basic knowledge of library terminology and bibliographic forms and structures.
  • General understanding of library automated systems and the ability to quickly learn and use campus library systems, as well as related on-line catalogs and systems.
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply policies and procedures related to assigned functional work area.
  • Ability to use standard features of office support technology and standard software packages.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English grammar, punctuation and spelling, including the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform standard arithmetic operations.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision to perform assigned work.
  • Ability to work within a diverse environment and be service-oriented in working with patrons and other library staff, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within and outside the library.
  • General knowledge of library policies and procedures and more specific knowledge of policies and procedures and work methods pertaining to the assigned functional area and work unit.
  • Working knowledge of library terms and bibliographic formats and structures, including the ability to conduct a simple bibliographic search.
  • Familiarity with institution’s and library’s ethical policies and practices associated with use of and access to library resources, including networked resources, as well as familiarity with established standards related to copyright and intellectual property protection.
  • Knowledge of basic library research methodology and the ability to use it.
  • Ability to use the library system(s) and subsystem(s) module(s) to perform assigned duties.
  • Ability to access various on-line resources and databases used within the library and to use their standard features to perform technical work and/or assist patrons.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to work with the public and assist patrons with basic inquiries and direct them appropriately in locating and using library materials and inform them of applicable library policies and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience working in an academic library.
  • Experience in a customer service situation, preferably in an academic student support setting.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

 

Initial salary step placement will be Step 1 ($3,703 per month) for qualified candidates.

CSU Classification Salary Step Range: $3,703 - $5,395 per month (Step 1 – Step 20)

Position Information:

Full-time Non-Exempt Probationary

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (9:15 am – 6:15 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: To be determined

Background Check
