
Job Summary:
The Marketing Communications Professional II (Video Production Specialist) supports the College of Extended and Global Education’s (CEGE) marketing and communications initiatives by creating high-quality, story-driven video content that promotes academic programs, faculty expertise, and student success. The position is responsible for planning, filming, and editing video productions, including interviews, promotional features, and recurring web series designed to enhance university visibility and enrollment marketing. Using professional audio-visual equipment and Adobe Creative Cloud applications, the incumbent produces engaging video content aligned with California State University, San Bernardino’s (CSUSB) brand standards, accessibility guidelines, and strategic objectives.
This role requires technical knowledge of lighting, sound, and post-production processes, as well as creative judgment in storytelling and visual composition. The incumbent works under general supervision, exercising initiative, creativity, and collaboration in support of CEGE’s marketing and enrollment goals.
Responsibilities:
Video Production and Filming
- Plans, records, and produces video content including student and faculty interviews, program features, and recurring video series.
- Sets up and operates video, lighting, and sound equipment to achieve professional-grade recordings that align with CSUSB branding and accessibility standards.
- Coordinates logistics such as scheduling, location scouting, and on-set preparation to ensure efficient and high-quality productions.
Video Editing and Post-Production
- Edits and assembles recorded footage using Adobe Premiere Pro, incorporating graphics, transitions, lower-thirds, and animations in Adobe After Effects.
- Performs color correction, sound mixing, and quality assurance for consistency across all marketing platforms.
- Uses Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator to design or integrate graphic elements, ensuring visual alignment with brand guidelines.
Creative Development and Storytelling
- Collaborates with marketing staff, faculty, and students to conceptualize projects and develop storyboards and interview questions.
- Conducts on-camera interviews and captures authentic narratives that support student recruitment, faculty highlights, and institutional storytelling.
- Applies editorial judgment to shape compelling visual stories that reinforce CEGE’s mission and CSUSB’s core values.
Equipment and Asset Management
- Maintains and organizes the college’s video production equipment, including cameras, lighting kits, microphones, and editing stations.
- Ensures equipment is operational, properly stored, and updated.
- Manages digital media assets and archives using organized file structures and backups consistent with university protocols.
Professional Development and Collaboration
- Engages in continuous learning to stay current with emerging trends in video production, social media content, and digital marketing.
- Collaborates with graphic designers, photographers, web developers, and other campus marketing staff to ensure cohesive visual storytelling across digital platforms and campaigns.
Other Job-Related Duties as assigned
- Supports photography sessions, live event coverage, and minor graphic design projects as needed.
- Provides occasional assistance with social media video formats and digital asset optimization.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Two (2) years of related professional or technical experience.
Required Qualifications:
- In addition to Position Skill Level I knowledge and skill requirements, work assignments typically require:
- Thorough knowledge of production techniques and equipment. General knowledge of production principles and practices for instructional media.
- Ability to develop, create, stage and/ or produce professional quality visuals and evaluate production effectiveness in meeting objectives.
- Strong writing skills including the ability to learn narration and continuity script writing.
- Working knowledge of tools for authoring interactive multimedia products delivered via a variety of synchronous and asynchronous techniques.
- Strong research skills and broad knowledge of resources and techniques which communicate information through multimedia productions.
- Ability to understand operating procedures and underlying technology in order to use and troubleshoot equipment and systems.
- Strong organizational skills to independently manage and coordinate all facets of production, budgets and other projects.
- Solid to advanced photographic capabilities, as well as photographic processing and manipulation skills.
- Ability to provide lead work and project direction to other staff.
- Ability to work with and train students involved in production projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Film Production, Marketing, or a related field.
- Experience: Two years of relevant experience producing and editing video content for marketing, educational, or promotional purposes.
- Additional experience demonstrating acquired and successfully applied knowledge may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.
- An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Working skills and knowledge of marketing, communications, multimedia storytelling principles, public relations, university branding, accessibility standards, social media formats, and/or related disciplines.
- Working knowledge of protocols and institutional etiquette related to public and media relations.
- Working knowledge of copyright and other applicable laws pertaining to publications and the media.
- Skilled in developing and implementing marketing and/or communications strategies and campaigns.
- Strong project planning and organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple marketing projects. Ability to meet deadlines under limited supervision.
- Strong composition and editing skills to quickly produce clear and concise standard documents for internal and external publication.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to create and deliver marketing initiatives and campaigns. Including interview and presentation techniques.
- Ability to provide lead work direction and training to others. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
- Proficiency in using communication and marketing software and tools. Such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, and related video editing software.
- Knowledge of lighting design, sound recording, and camera operation techniques.
- Work is performed in both office and studio environments, as well as on-location video shoots.
- Requires regular lifting of video equipment (up to 25 lbs.), setup of lighting and sound gear, and extended periods of standing during filming.
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for events or production schedules.
Compensation and Benefits:
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.
Initial salary step placement will be Step 1 ($5,178/month) for qualified candidates.
CSU Classification Salary Step Range: $5,178 - $7,543 per month (Step 1 – Step 20)

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
