Compensation and Benefits

Staff:
Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,367 - $4,543 per month (Steps 1-3)

Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,367 - $6,362 per month

  • This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Job Summary

 

The Administrative Support Coordinator II (ASC) works independently, under the general direction of the department chair, coordinating the entire clerical and administrative support for a full range of functions for the Department of Media, Communication and Journalism. The ASC II is the first point of contact for the department and thus, must be welcoming, professional and accessible. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of all administrative operations of the department and working with other offices on campus, including the Office of the Dean.

 

The ASC II position will provide coordination of department and administrative support functions and performance of administrative work in a large/complex academic, administrative department office, troubleshoot and work closely with other areas within the department. The administrative work performed is operational and procedural in nature and typically involves the full scope of activities from planning, initiation, execution, implementation and evaluation. The ASC II coordinates human resource activities and department events, performs course scheduling and other academic tasks, monitors and reconciles budgets, oversees purchasing, including equipment, supplies, travel, professional development and other expenses, and trains faculty and staff on procedures. 

 

Assignments include independently completing tasks in an accurate and timely manner while demonstrating effective and efficient planning, initiative, organization, prioritization, decision making and confidentiality skills; interpreting and applying university and college procedures and guidelines; gathering data and preparing standard reports; processing documents and records, providing budget support; and financial reporting that involves reconciliation, analysis and projections.

The successful candidate will assist the Department Chair and faculty to ensure that all University, College and Department requirements and deadlines are accurately and promptly met. This position requires considerable discretion and judgment in order to effectively coordinate and support all functions related to delivery of essential academic programming and services.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and four years of office-equivalent training and work experience.
  • Four years of progressively responsible clerical and/or customer service experience, which includes full functional knowledge of and skill in standard administrative office procedures, practices and equipment as well as the ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures.
