Position Summary:
Under the immediate supervision of the Assistant Manager, Custodial Services, the Floor Maintenance Custodians is primarily responsible for specialized floor maintenance and restoration across assigned campus buildings and adjacent areas. Core duties include carpet cleaning, burnishing, polishing, stripping, refinishing, auto scrubbing, and power washing. The position also performs general custodial cleaning; assists with event set ups and breakdowns; moves furniture and equipment; completes minor maintenance tasks; and supports the upkeep of exterior areas to maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming campus environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine and specialized floor‑care tasks such as carpet extraction, polishing, stripping, refinishing, and power washing.
- Use, operate, and maintain equipment including auto‑scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, extractors, and power washers.
- Apply cleaning chemicals and materials safely in accordance with campus and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform general Custodial duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A valid driver's license
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of:
- Floor care procedures and custodial operations.
- Methods, materials, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work.
- Safety and sanitation practices appropriate for custodial tasks, including chemical handling and equipment use.
- Skills in:
- Using and caring for custodial supplies, tools, and floor care equipment.
- Performing arithmetic computations when required (e.g., dilution ratios, supply measurements).
- Providing service oriented, customer focused support to campus staff, students, and visitors.
- Ability to:
- Read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
- Follow simple oral and written directions.
- Observe, understand, and apply safe working conditions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
- Perform physical job duties safely, including lifting and moving up to 50 pounds.
- Operate motorized equipment, such as trucks or electric carts, if required (must possess a valid driver’s license when duties include driving).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of custodial experience, including demonstrated experience with floor maintenance and restoration, OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Formal training or certification in floor care procedures.
- Experience using auto scrubbers, burnishers, extractors, and other specialized custodial equipment.
