Salary
The anticipated salary hiring range is up to $81,984 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Work Arrangements
Flexibility to telecommute two days a week, with three days on-site at the main headquarters in Long Beach, California.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $62,136 - $90,516 per year (Step 1 - Step 20); Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience. Step placement upon appointment is not expected to exceed Step 15 ($81,984 per year). Future increases, including step advancement, are subject to contract negotiations.
Position Information
The California State University, Office of the Chancellor, is seeking a CSURMA Lead Reporting Accountant to lead the complex financial reporting for the California State University Risk Management Authority (CSURMA) requiring thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices; The incumbent will lead or perform financial analysis and recommendation in order to maintain the quality, consistency and integrity of financial reports and special projects. This position requires analysis of complex accounting treatments to verify accurate application of established policy, procedures, and general accounting standards are being followed. Incumbent will work independently to identify actual or potential problems and recommend corrective or preventive actions. This position will also need to clearly communicate technical accounting information and activities to other accounting professionals and non-accountant staff. This position would be safeguard sensitive/confidential data involving the CSURMA programs according to CSU policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Senior Manager, Enterprise and CO Financial Reporting, the CSURMA Lead Reporting Accountant will perform duties as outlined below:
Lead or perform the preparation of financial statements and the related schedules for the complex CSURMA audit and monthly & quarterly financial reporting package.
CSURMA Annual Audit:
-Lead or perform the preparation of financial statements and the related schedules for complex CSURMA external audit package.
-Coordinate preparing prepared-by-client schedules and supplementary schedules.
-Independently identify necessary GAAP journal entries and lead in its preparation including supporting documentation.
-Prepare and assist in the preparation of the fluctuation analysis for management and audit requirements.
-Act as a liaison to external auditors.
Other Reporting & Support Schedules:
-Lead and perform CSURMA monthly closing process.
-Prepare periodic financial statements and financial reports for management and analyze for accuracy and completeness.
-Coordinate with the 3rd party Program Administrator to provide Executive Committee/Board of Directors support for agenda items.
-Assure mandated reports are completed and submitted to appropriate agency or personnel according to established timelines (i.e., CA Special District Reporting).
-Ensure compliance with CSURMA adopted policy and procedures.
Reconcile and analyze CSURMA general ledger accounts to ensure accurate and timely recording of activities.
-Perform analysis and reconciliation of various schedules to ensure accuracy of GL account balances.
-Maintain the quality, consistency, and integrity of the financial information by performing in-dept analysis of CSURMA financial activities.
-Participate in the research to resolve identified issues, errors, and discrepancies in financial reports.
-Develop and recommend changes to accounting process and procedures.
-Recommend training opportunities to become more efficient and provide better reporting to our customers.
Special projects and other duties as assigned.
-Special reporting or research projects as needed.
-Assist in implementing and completing various analysis in support of the department of Systemwide Financial Standard& Reporting.
-Serve as backup and support to the department in the event of staff absences.
Qualifications
This position requires:
-Bachelor’s degree with a major in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field.
-Equivalent to two years of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in a higher education environment.
-Thorough knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) under GASB
-Experience with accounting, accounting software applications, analysis, and advanced knowledge of Excel.
-Demonstrated ability to understand problems and discern applicable underlying principles to conceive of and develop solutions.
-Ability to independently work with a high degree of accuracy under tight timelines.
-Possesses excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; be an articulate communicator and good listener and demonstrate a style that facilitates the sharing of knowledge.
-Ability to examine financial documents for completeness, accuracy and conformance with established policies and procedures.
-Ability to interpret written policies, procedures and regulations and develop effective workflow processes to meet evolving business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
-Governmental accounting experience.
-Experience with PeopleSoft , Workiva, and Wdesk.
