Major Duties

Under general supervision, the Financial Aid Representative provides frontline customer service by assisting students with financial aid programs, application requirements, and eligibility processes. The position reviews financial aid documentation for accuracy and compliance, responds to student inquiries, performs file review and verification activities, maintains records, participates in outreach and training activities, and refers students to appropriate campus resources when needed.

  • Provides excellent customer service in a positive and calm manner at the counter, telephone and via email in a high volume, high profile office.
  • Reviews intake documents for accurate completion and adherence to Federal, State, Chancellor's Office, and CSUN regulations.
  • Responds to student email and voicemail inquiries on a daily basis using data available on SOLAR or from alternate information sources.
  • Performs initial file review, basic verification or other production work according to training and procedures.
  • Participates in divisional activities, trainings, meetings, committees, and outreach activities on and off-campus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to four (4) years of full-time, general office clerical and administrative support experience that has provided the applicant with the knowledge and abilities listed.
  • Equivalent to full-time college or university education/vocational school training in business or job-related field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience on a year for year basis.

 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills while assisting a diverse student population.
  • Interprets and applies federal, state, CSU, and university financial aid regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Reviews documentation with strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Analyzes information, resolves routine problems, and exercises sound judgment when determining appropriate actions or referrals.
  • Maintains accurate electronic records and effectively uses enterprise systems and office technology to support financial aid operations.
  • Organizes multiple priorities in a high-volume environment while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and responsiveness.

 

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule

  • The university offers an excellent benefits package, including but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement & savings, tuition waiver, and more.
  • Classification: 1035 / ASC / Grade 1
  • The anticipated HIRING RATE is $4047. The salary range for this classification is: $4047 - $5896 per month.
  • HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday.
  • This is a Regular position with a one-year probationary period. 
  • The position is currently hybrid (3 days in office, 2 days remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or operational needs.
