Monday - Thursday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM. This is a temporary position to end on or before June 30, 2027, with a possibility of renewal on an annual basis if funds and/or program needs exist.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under general supervision of the Director of the Business Advising Center, the Business Advisor provides academic advising and support to undergraduate students within the College of Business and Economics. The Business Advisor guides newly admitted and continuing students by offering comprehensive academic advising through individual appointments, group advising sessions, workshops, and presentations.

Key responsibilities include advising students on degree requirements, course selection, transcript evaluations, academic policies and procedures, and academic standing, including probation-related support. The Business Advisor also assists with student success initiatives, special programs, orientations, and educational workshops designed to promote retention, engagement, and academic achievement.

Additional responsibilities include managing advising appointments, email correspondence, and drop-in advising services; reviewing and processing TDA exceptions for approved electives and course substitutions; evaluating coursework; processing change-of-major requests; and maintaining accurate student records. Supports an assigned student population, coordinates outreach and intervention strategies based on student needs, and provides advising support during front desk coverage. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the mission and goals of the Business Advising Center.

Essential Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent from an accredited four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public administration, business administration, or a job-related field plus one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Specialized and relevant experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Equivalent amounts of job-related, graduate level education may be substituted for the required experience. Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management. Working knowledge of research techniques, interview techniques, and the principles of individual and group behavior. Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations. Ability to present clear and concise information orally and in written reports. Ability to acquire knowledge of campus procedures and activities and the overall organization. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.  

Preferred Qualifications

Currently enrolled in or have completed a master’s degree.  Previous experience advising an undergraduate student population with the ability to advise or counsel students individually and in groups. Working knowledge of the practices, procedures, and activities of an undergraduate advisement office.

License/Certifications

A valid California driver’s license.
