Psychology - Quantitative Methods
Assistant Professor
Tenure Track
Fall 2027 (August 2027)

The Department of Psychology is searching for a tenure-track, academic-year position as an Assistant Professor of Psychology. The candidate’s primary area of specialization may be in quantitative methods, or it may be in another subdiscipline of psychology, provided that quantitative methods play a substantial role in the candidate’s research program. Quantitative methods is broadly defined, but may include experimental design, statistical modeling, psychometrics, computational modeling, and the quantitative analysis of behavioral or psychological data. Primary responsibilities include: 1) teaching foundation and advanced courses in statistics and research design within our undergraduate (B.A.) program and graduate (M.A.) programs in General/Experimental Psychology and 2) supervising undergraduate and graduate research students in an active research program in the candidate’s area of expertise. The candidate will have a workload consisting of 12 WTUs of instruction and 3 WTUs of non instructional activities. Non-instructional responsibilities typically include, but are not limited to, maintaining an active research program, advising students, community service, participating in program development, and committee service at all levels of university governance. Specific assignments depend on departmental needs and the individual's background.

Qualifications:

Required Education (from an accredited institution or foreign equivalent.):

1. An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Psychology or closely related field from an accredited (or equivalent) institution.
2. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered; however, for appointment, the doctorate must be completed by August 1, 2027.

Required Experience:

1. Evidence of successful teaching, either as an instructor-of-record or as a teaching assistant.
2. Evidence of research productivity.
3. A commitment to student success through inclusive, accessible, and transformative education and to working collaboratively and respectfully with students, faculty, staff in our diverse community.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, staff and members of the campus community.

Preferred Experience:

1. Successful teaching in the areas of research methods and statistics.
2. A record of using quantitative methods to advance research in one's area of specialization
3. Evidence of readiness to engage undergraduate and masters-level students in one’s specific area of research.
4. Collaboration across and within disciplines.
5. Supervision or mentoring of research students or research team coordination.
6. Participation in the development of grant proposals and/or implementation of grant funded activities, with strong potential to develop an externally funded research program.

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.  The anticipated hiring range is $6,750 -$7,100 per month for an Assistant Professor (12 monthly payments per academic year).  As a member of the 23-campus CSU System, we offer an extremely competitive benefits package.

The Department of Psychology is an academic unit within The College of Science and Mathematics, which is one of eight main instructional academic units of California State University, Fresno. The department is one of the largest on campus, with approximately 1850 undergraduate majors, 85 graduate students, and 20 tenured or tenure-track faculty.
