Department of Physics & Astronomy- Assistant Professor San Bernardino - San Bernardino Campus
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications from a diverse group of qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position to begin August 2026. The Department offers B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics, with minors in astronomy and applied physics, and is currently in the planning stages for an interdisciplinary M.S. degree in Materials Science, which is associated with the Center for Advanced Functional Materials (https://www.csusb.edu/center-advanced-functional-materials). We welcome applications in all areas of research in physics. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience teaching and conducting research in the areas of quantum, AMO, or materials sciences and can help support the masters degree program in materials science, as well as teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate physics courses.  The successful candidate will join an intellectually stimulating and innovative academic environment that embraces diversity. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from all groups historically underrepresented in Physics and STEM fields, including intersections across multiple groups.

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at California State University, San Bernardino invites applications for a new Department of Physics and Astronomy chair to begin December 2025. This is a full time tenure track position with a half-time academic year faculty appointment and a half-time 12 month chair appointment. The ideal candidate will be an experienced faculty member with demonstrated leadership and administrative skills, an established record of scholarly research, and evidence of commitment to student success. The Chair is expected to provide leadership in shaping and facilitating the future of the department including faculty and staff development, faculty mentoring, strategic planning, and student recruitment and success initiatives. The Department Chair will serve in a leadership capacity in support of the mission of the College of Natural Sciences. They will provide academic and administrative leadership and facilitate the orderly conduct of the affairs of the Department and the College. Preference will be given to candidates with familiarity in navigating large public education systems, such as the CSU. Part-time lecturers are solely responsible for teaching their assigned course(s), including teaching all class sessions according to the semester schedule and teaching in the modality assigned to the course. CSUSB Geology Teaching Associates (TAs) may be responsible for one or more GEOL 1000L Introductory Geology Laboratory sections, or may support a faculty member in an upper division geology class. TAs teaching GEOL 1000L are solely responsible for their assigned section(s), including being present in person for all class meetings during the semester, being available for meetings with the laboratory coordinator and other teaching assistants, maintaining the shared lab space including cleaning up after assigned lab sections, assessing student work, and meeting with students outside of class during regularly scheduled office hours. TAs supporting an upper division geology class will work with the faculty member teaching the class to determine the TA responsibilities.

The CSUSB School of Social Work seeks a graduate assistant who has strong research skills focusing on examining food insecurity in the Coachella Valley area, leveraging community-based partnerships to do so. In particular, this position will work directly with community partners to implement a cross-sectional survey and analyze survey data to further understand the nature of food insecurity in the Coachella Valley. The graduate assistant will play an active role on project teams with the University and community partners. Candidates must be able to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines, be well versed in basic research and evaluation strategies, methodologies and analytic approaches, have quality written and oral communication skills, and be able to manage positive relationships with community partners. This position provides the opportunity for conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications. The position requires approximately 6 hours per week through Summer 2025.
