The Office of Philanthropic Giving is part of University Advancement and is responsible for securing private philanthropy from alumni, friends, corporations, and foundations to advance the University’s mission in support of the faculty, staff, and students. OPG plays a critical role in advancing the University and cementing CSUSB’s reputation as a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in Inland Southern California.

Director of Philanthropy (DoP) for the College of Natural Sciences is a proven and forward-looking fundraising professional who understands how to generate philanthropic support for CSUSB from various stakeholders – individuals and organizations and who will work collaboratively with university representatives including the academic leadership within the college. The DoP reports to the Associate Vice President of Philanthropic Giving. This position will focus on major gift fundraising in support of the College of Natural Sciences.
Responsibilities include, but is not limited to:
- Serves as a front-line fundraiser who identifies, cultivates, and solicits alumni, friends, corporations and foundations with the capacity and affinity to make gifts of $25,000 and above.
- Design, develop and implement a major gift program and will be responsible for managing and cultivating relationships with existing major gift prospects, as well as identifying new prospects.
- Work closely with the AVP of Philanthropic Giving and Dean to develop and implement strategies to engage major gift prospects, and advance gift conversations towards funding opportunities and university priorities. In addition, the DoP will be responsible for raising resources in support of endowed scholarships, fellowships, professorships, and capital projects as well as unrestricted and restricted current use purposes.
- The DoP will play a critical role in the planning of the College of Natural Sciences priorities as part of the University’s fundraising campaign, collaborating with University officials, faculty, campaign volunteers, and colleagues throughout the Advancement office.
- Conduct personal visits annually to cultivate, solicit prospects and close gifts.
- Completes a minimum number of major gifts asks, visits, and written strategies; metrics and goals are negotiated and set annually with the DoP including guidance from the Dean and AVP for Philanthropic Giving.
- Identifying, cultivating and soliciting alumni, parents and friends for the College of Natural Sciences.
- Works in a highly collaborative environment, DoP will have opportunities to engage with faculty, manage volunteers, and collaborate with colleagues across the Philanthropic Giving team, and Advancement Division.
- Major Gift portfolios may include regional and national assignments involving travel.
- Represent the College of Natural Sciences in the preparation and submission of grant applications, case statements and appropriate major gift proposals. Submit contact and technical reports, deliver timely and effective follow-up to prospects and donors, draft copy for press releases, and communication materials.
Employment Status: Full-time, Exempt, At-will, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.
- Basic knowledge of planned/deferred giving vehicles such as wills, life income plans, gifts of unusual assets, beneficiary designations.
- Ability to manage and cultivate relationships
- Proven customer service and relationship building experience.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and BSR Advance database (or equivalents).
- Successful experience in working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Education and Experience
- Minimum 3 years experience in fundraising for higher education or other non profits.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $7,500 - $9,167 per month
Classification Salary Range: $4,583 - $13,750 per month
