Job Summary:

Under the immediate direction of the Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support related to the formation of partnerships with Economic Development Departments and regional economic development stakeholders in the Inland Empire. This is a project initiated by the Supervisor and supported through an Office of Community Engagement "Establishing Community Partnerships Grant", awarded in December 2024.

The Student Assistant will have a strong passion local economic development and outreach/network development, as well as a keen interest in the ability of data to help empower decisionmakers.

The goal of the project is to develop a thick network of Economic Development Departments and other regional policymakers interested in using data to make more informed policy decisions that help grow their economy and community more broadly, while carrying out the University's mission and vision statement for heightened community engagement.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Under the immediate direction, duties include but not limited to:

  • Maintain files related to the project, including statistical reports, executive summaries, datasets, and Excel spreadsheets of contact information (see other job duties): upload, organize, and backup files as required by Supervisor.
  • Create a database of Economic Development Department contacts and regional policymakers, including managers, assistants, and other policymakers. Database will include email, phone, physical address, and other information. Research and follow up with contacts to ensure the information is reliable.
  • Facilitate the communication with Economic Development Departments through the reproduction and distribution of reports to the Departments and other stakeholders, using the contact information collected (see other job duties).
  • Attend workshops and conferences with Supervisor to build additional contacts and networks and distribute information about the project to potential contacts.

Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience

  • Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
  • Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.

Required Qualifications:

  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A preferred qualification of the applicant is that they are currently enrolled as an Economics major.

Compensation and Benefits:

Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.

The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.


Position Information:

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal

Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).

Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

Conditions of Employment
Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.  Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check when required may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Driver’s License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required.  Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
