Job Summary:

The Annual Giving Marketing and Program Professional is a vital team member engaged in strategic planning, implementation, and continuation of multi-channel communications and marketing strategies that increase contributions and participation from alumni, parents, students, and friends of the University.

Responsibilities:

Marketing and Campaign Strategy

  • Develop and implement strategic outreach plans that motivate philanthropic participation and strengthen engagement among alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University.
  • Coordinate the design, development, and production of print and digital collateral for Annual Giving campaigns—including direct mail, call center, email, text, social media, and other solicitation channels—to achieve established fundraising and participation goals.
  • Lead the planning and execution of multi-channel giving campaigns, integrating social media, email, direct mail, and peer-to-peer strategies to connect with donors and increase annual support.
  • Create compelling collateral and messaging that communicate the impact of giving and encourage participation through various outreach channels.
  • Maintain high-quality standards in all communications to ensure alignment with the University’s visual identity and messaging standards while emphasizing philanthropic priorities and donor impact.
  • Identify emerging digital trends and engagement opportunities to strengthen participation and donor retention across key audiences.
  • Partner with the Office of Strategic Communication and other campus units to ensure that all Annual Giving materials and outreach align with institutional branding and support the University’s philanthropic goals.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to build a culture of giving, expand outreach opportunities, and elevate the presence of Annual Giving across the University community.
  • Support the planning and implementation of campus-wide giving initiatives, including Giving Days, faculty-staff campaigns, crowdfunding, student philanthropy programs, and other special appeals that increase participation and giving outcomes.

Communications and Stewardship

  • Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that align with Annual Giving goals, ensuring consistent, targeted messaging across multiple audiences and channels.
  • Implement creative, segmented communication and engagement plans across digital, print, and social platforms designed to achieve measurable increases in donor participation and response rates.
  • Produce donor-centered content for email campaigns, newsletters, web pages, social media, print materials, and other outreach designed to strengthen connections and encourage continued support.
  • Monitor and track annual giving program budgets to ensure fiscal compliance and cost-effectiveness.
  • Assist in recruiting and training new student employees and provide lead work direction on daily tasks and responsibilities assigned.  Educate student employees on Annual Giving and fundraising trends. 
  • Provide Lead work direction to 5-10 student assistants
  • Support the scheduling and coordination of student fundraising activities to maintain adequate staffing levels for calling and campaign operations.
  • Provide feedback on student performance and assist with the completion of required personnel documentation for new and returning student employees.
  • Prepare and submit accurate monthly student payroll information in coordination with the Student Employment Office, Work-Study, and the University Advancement budget manager.

University Advancement Participation:

  • Participate in divisional strategic planning, goal setting, event planning, and project status sessions;
  • Maintain the highest standards of development procedures and protocols utilizing various forms, report formats, databases, and clearance procedures;
  • Integrate development efforts with central advancement staff and gift processing staff to ensure accurate gift recording and receipting.
  • Collaborate with prospect research team to identify potential annual giving level donors.
  • Assist with general donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship as part of a development team that attracts additional support that is important to all colleges, schools, and programs. Conduct Annual Giving meetings with development/Annual Giving staff to evaluate the program’s level of customer service, overall program progress, and results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Two years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

Required Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of advancement principles and current best practices.
  • Demonstrates competence in independently applying judgment to resolve non-standard problems
  • and issues. Includes interpretation of applicable regulations, standards, and guidelines.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills to plan, organize, prioritize, and ensure the successful
  • completion of fundraising campaigns or events within time and budget constraints.
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate multiple stakeholder
  • relationships and guide the development of appropriate fundraising and promotional materials.
  • Ability to effectively lead and train others.
  • Knowledge of event planning, fundraising, budgeting, and accounting principles and processes.
  • Proficiency in using advancement or donor management software and financial systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in marketing and social media
  • Experience with development software including Advance
  • Experience in developing social media campaigns
  • Experience in communications and brand awareness
  • Experience working in a higher education fundraising setting desired
  • One – three years of effective fundraising experience at the annual giving level.
  • One – three years of successful experience in supervision and or management of student employees.
  • Exceptional leadership and strategic planning skills. Strong research and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication, writing, and editing abilities. Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in locating and synthesizing materials from multiple sources.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and summarize complex biographical, business, and financial data.
  • High degree of organization and initiative.
  • Ability to handle deadlines and changing priorities with good judgment.
  • Well-developed sense of curiosity, ingenuity, and perseverance.
  • Ability to maintain the highest standards of confidentiality and professional integrity.
  • Strong team player. Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of the organization

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

Initial step placement will be CSUEU Salary Step 1: $5,274 per month

CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,274 - $7,684 per month (Step 1 – Step 20)

 

The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 15 paid holidays a year. Position Information:

Full-time Exempt Probationary

Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.

Background Check
