Department Summary

The CSUSB Student Health Center is dedicated to the well-being and educational success of students and offers board-certified physicians as well as a team of pharmacists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, health educators, professional nursing, and administrative staff. And a friendly and knowledgeable front office staff.

Our medical services include primary care, immunizations, nursing care, and health education. Our health center is conveniently equipped with a pharmacy and laboratory.

Job Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse I will be a member of the medical team for the CSUSB Student Health Center, providing clinical support for medical staff and providers. The incumbent will be assigned specific medical-related duties and will be required to adhere to HIPPA and FERPA laws in regards to patient care.

Employment Status: Full-time, Probationary, "Non-Exempt" position (with the possibility of converting to permanent)

First Review Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. The initial review of applications will begin on November 24, 2021.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Key Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of:
    • Nursing care principles and practices pertaining to the scope of practice
    • Anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties
    • Basic medications and their effects, as well as potential complications
    • Application and proper use of various medical supplies and equipment used in performing assigned nursing duties; and aseptic techniques and requirements.
  • Working knowledge of California laws and regulations pertaining to LVNs and their scope of practice
  • Ability to perform assigned nursing duties and demonstrate appropriate nursing practices
  • Demonstrate proper techniques and skills
  • Competency in performing assigned nursing duties and patient care activities described above
  • Learn related clinic procedures and handle equipment required for patient care in a Student Health Center
  • Understand basic medical terminology
  • Make accurate observations and accurately document a patient’s subject complaint in medical records
  • Exercise correct judgment within the areas of assigned responsibility
  • Follow detailed oral and written instructions
  • Use applicable health center automated systems as needed to perform duties

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a state-approved vocational nursing program in an accredited school of vocational nursing or equivalent training and experience as defined by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT)

License and certification

  • Possess and maintain a valid Vocational Nurse license issued by the State of California
  • May also be required to possess and maintain a valid CPR/AED certification and/or IV certification as appropriate to the assigned duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience and ability to work with patients from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience working with college students, preferably in a college setting
  • Experience giving immunizations and other injections
  • Possess a valid California phlebotomy license

Salary:

Anticipated Hiring Range: $2,912 - $3,455 per month

Classification Salary Range: $2,912 - $5,610 per month
