The Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) department resides in the College of Extended and Global Education. PaCE extends university resources to accommodate the educational and professional development needs of today's workforce in a variety of program formats and settings.
Under the direction of the Assistant Dean of the College of Extended and Global Education (CEGE), the incumbent will provide oversight and coordination for the daily operations of CSUSB’s English Language Program, as well as special short-term and long-term programs. The incumbent is responsible for the full scope of program operation, including initiation, execution, coordination, implementation, and evaluation. The incumbent also provides academic advising and services and student support for the programs.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Be responsible for program curriculum, instruction, program implementation, assessment, and revision.
- Develop and implement changes in curriculum and level objectives/outcomes; review and update assessment and placement procedures as needed.
- Organize English Placement Tests and post-tests at the end of the program; oversee student English proficiency improvements and level placements.
- Develop, maintain, and/or edit program calendars and dates, deadlines and fees, testing schedules, and the instructor manual and student handbook.
- Hire instructors and oversee instructor course assignments and classroom teaching performance; review program course evaluations and meet with instructors to design improvements; serve as a lead for instructors.
- Implement student success initiatives and serve on Student Engagement Committee and Orientation Committee.
- Develop and implement various surveys such as the Sense of Belonging survey and program evaluations; coordinate extra-curricular activities (special events) for students, including field trips and dorm shopping.
- Prepare enrollment report and other reports at the end of the term or program. Monitor student attendance and progress, provide academic advising, meet with students to discuss academic progress, coordinate designation of academic probation, and facilitate its resolution.
- Facilitate student admission and matriculation into degree programs and increase matriculation rate, organizing admission workshops and providing all necessary information to students.
- Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) for IEP students, ensure compliance with immigration policies and regulations, maintain SEVIS immigration records, issue I-20s, and process transfers, travel signatures, and changes of status.
Employment Status: Full-time, Temporary, “Exempt” position.

Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.
- Knowledge of the procedures and practices in educational program and curriculum planning; resources of the campus and the surrounding community; and the processes required to plan and construct academic programs and course outlines.
- Ability to determine needs for new or revised programs, plan course hours and credit, develop course outlines with instructors, locate instructors and to assist them in understanding and completing contract arrangements, develop budgets and analyze costs, write promotional materials and develop a variety of promotional techniques, represent the CSU system to the community and develop working relationships, manage logistics of providing classes, and maintain cost information and records.
Education and Experience
- Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with courses in TESOL/ESL.
- Experience: Equivalent to two years of experience in planning classes or programs in the field of English as a Second Language.
- Experience developing resources, budgets, and marketing plans for educational programs and in acting as a liaison with the community is desirable. Teaching experience in higher or extended education may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Master’s Degree in TESOL and experience working with international students or non-native English speakers.
- Experience working as a Designated School Official (DSO) and handling immigration issues.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Anticipated Hiring Range $4,493 - $5,000 per month
Classification Salary Range $4,493 - $6,395 per month
